A New Dawn

The first day of school is always a day filled with emotions, a mixture of excitement, curiosity, and anticipation. But there’s something truly magical about being part of a child’s first experience with learning. It’s a day that marks a significant chapter in their lives, one that they will look back on, and I feel incredibly privileged to be part of that journey. As the sun rose on that crisp morning of January 6, 2025, a palpable energy filled the air. It was not just another day; it marked the opening of our brand-new school, a place where dreams, aspirations, and futures would be nurtured. The excitement was infectious as rscjs, teachers, parents and pupils gathered to witness the beginning of a new chapter. I knew the first day wasn’t just about meeting the children – it was also about meeting their families. After all, they were entrusting us with their most precious ones, and that trust meant the world. As parents entered the compound, we greeted them with a smile and open arms, knowing that these first interactions set the tone for the year ahead. The rscjs present took part in different activities such as welcoming visitors, giving out uniforms and directions. The pupils were very excited to have beautiful and unique new uniforms. The children began to trickle into the classroom, their faces a mix of wonder and uncertainty. Some walked in holding their parents’ hands, some stepped in with a little more confidence. I could feel their nervous energy, their excitement, and the weight of the newness of it all. We welcomed each child with a smile, offering a handshake, a high-five, or a gentle “hello,” depending on what seemed to make them most comfortable. It didn’t matter how they entered; what mattered was that they felt seen and valued from the very first second. The classrooms buzzed with anticipation as pupils explored their new surroundings, forming friendships that would last a lifetime. Teachers exchanged smiles and warm greetings, ready to inspire and guide their pupils on this journey of discovery. It was a day of firsts: first smiles, first friendships, first lessons, and the beginning of a lifelong learning adventure. I watched as the children slowly but surely started to feel at home in the space. With each new interaction, their confidence grew, and my heart swelled with pride as I saw the potential in each of them. As the day progressed, pupils participated in interactive activities designed to foster teamwork and creativity. Each experience, reinforcing the bonds that would make this school a second home. The laughter echoed through the halls, a joyful reminder of the power of connection and the joy of learning. I’m so happy to be a pioneer of this new school. I embrace the responsibility to shape young minds with love and dedication. May Duchesne Mission School thrive as a symbol of resilience, love and dedication. Together we will nurture the seeds of knowledge and watch them broom into the leaders, thinkers and innovators of tomorrow in the pursuit of education. Jeniffer Mutiso
