JESUS’ TRANSFIGURATION
1st Reading (Genesis 15:5-12: 17-18 )
The First Reading presents the covenant between God and Abram (later Abraham). God promises Abram descendants as numerous as the stars and makes a covenant with him. This passage is a reminder of God’s faithfulness and the promises that He makes, not because of anything Abram has done, but because of God’s love and grace. During this time of lent, we are invited to deepen our faith in God’s promises. Like Abram, we may not see the full picture, but we are invited to trust that God’s plan for us is good, even when we face challenges or uncertainties.
2ND READING (Philippians 3:20-4:1)
The Second Reading encourages us to press on toward the goal of eternal life in Christ Jesus. Paul contrasts the mindset of those who live for earthly things with those who live with their eyes on heaven. He reminds the Philippians and us that our citizenship is in heaven, and we are called to live according to the values of the kingdom of God, not the world. This reading challenges us to focus on eternal life and to seek the transformation that Christ offers through His resurrection. We are invited to take time to examine our life, identify areas where we seek transformation and allow God to purify and refine us .
GOSPEL (Luke 9:28b -36)
The Gospel Reading presents the Transfiguration of Jesus. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John to a mountain, where He is transfigured before them. The Transfiguration of Jesus is a moment of divine revelation. Jesus’ glory is revealed to the disciples, offering them a glimpse of His divinity and the glory of the coming resurrection. This event invites us to reflect on our own journey of transformation. Lent is a time to allow Christ to transform us, to allow His light to shine through us. Just as the disciples were changed by their experience on the mountain, we are called to let the experience of God’s presence change us at a deeper level.
May this Second Sunday of Lent be a moment of deep reflection, calling us to transform our lives through faith, prayer, and the grace of God. As we listen to Christ, may we be ever more open to His call, trusting that He is with us in both the joys and struggles of our journey. We are invited to live with our hearts set on the eternal glory that awaits us through Christ’s resurrection. May the light of Christ shine brightly in us and through us, as we follow Him more closely.
